Routines. Routines. Routines.

We’re always telling you that you need a simple routine and to stick with it. But, what about our routines? Do we practice what we preach? Absolutely.

We thought we should put our money where our mouth is, and tell you the skincare and grooming routines we follow day in and day out. I’ll go through my routine and my co-founder Matt’s daily routine. We have very different routines, so hopefully you can relate to one of them.

Josh – Normal/sensitive skin, with a ton of fine, brown hair. Not the hairiest of guys.

In the morning:

I’m lazy. I do the minimum amount needed to look good. I take a shower every morning and use our scented Purifying Charcoal Face Wash for men to clean my face. Having sensitive skin, our Clarifying Gel Face Wash is a little too harsh. I don’t wash my hair in the morning, only at night. Why is this? As discussed in our men’s haircare article, washing your hair more than once a day is bad for the hair.

I use our Invigorating Mint Body Wash for men with a wash cloth to quickly clean the rest of my body.

After I get out of the shower, I pat my face dry and apply our Daily Essential Face Moisturizer for men. My face always feels like a million bucks after putting it on. I’m not just saying that because I own the company, there’s a reason it’s our best selling product. Even in the sweltering Miami summer heat, it stays on when I sweat. If I didn’t get great sleep, or I want to look extra energized, I’ll use a little bit of our Restoring Eye Cream for men under my eyes. I like the tingling feeling it gives my skin as it sinks in.

What about shaving? Well, I hate shaving and avoid it like the plague. Not because of razor bumps or irritation, but because I just think it’s a pain in the ass. I trim my facial hair every morning. I’m one of those lucky/unlucky guys who can’t grow a beard, so it’s a pretty easy chore.

During the day, I don’t really do much as far as grooming or skincare wise, I don’t sweat that much, even when working out.

At night:

After the day is done and I’ve hit the gym, I take a shower. I again use our Purifying Charcoal Face Wash. I absolutely cannot stand going to bed with an oily, dirty face. 1-2x a week, I use our Renewing Face Scrub for men. It’s great to remove the dead skin and other impurities that build up on your face each week. My face is too sensitive though to use more than that.

This is when I wash my hair using our Daily Strengthening Shampoo for men. I’ve always had good hair (thank you genes), so I only condition with our Revitalizing Hair Conditioner for men 1-2x a week when it feels a little dry. Frankly, until I started the company, I didn’t know what conditioner was or why a guy should use it. I finish off by washing off my body with our Invigorating Mint Body Wash.

Once again, I pat my face dry and put on some of our Daily Essential Face Moisturizer. I only use our unscented version as I’ve never been a guy who particularly likes to smell something I put on my face.  Why don’t I use our Ultimate Men’s Anti-Aging Routine before bed? Because honestly, wrinkles are not one of my main concerns and our Daily Essential Face Moisturizer has enough anti-aging ingredients for me to not worry about it.

Matt – Oily type skin, with quickly eroding fine black hair. If there’s an area of skin that he doesn’t have hair on, we haven’t found it.

Matt’s routine is a little more robust than mine.

In the morning:

Each morning he takes a shower and washes his hair with our Daily Strengthening Shampoo and Revitalizing Hair Conditioner. He uses conditioner (when he remembers) after nearly every shampoo. If you’ve got thinning hair, you need all the fullness you can get out of each strand and our conditioner will help volumize your hair strands.

Matt uses our Clarifying Gel Face Wash since he has oily skin, and it was made for guys with more oily type skin. It doesn’t cause any dryness like it does on mine. He enjoys the scent and lather it creates.

Matt uses our Invigorating Mint Body Wash, but also sometimes our Mint Soap Scrub Bar. Since he has oily skin, his body is more prone to get pimples from packing and filling orders all day. He uses the soap scrub bar on the areas where pimples are more likely to be found, arms, back of the legs and his back.

Once out of the shower, Matt shaves almost every day using our scented Smooth Brushless Shave Cream. On most days, he uses our Renewing Face Scrub on his whiskers prior to his shave to loosen up the hairs for a better shave. Prior to using our products, he used to get ingrown hairs. He now only gets a few every month or so. He typically uses our scented Instant Relief Aftershave for men on the parts of his face and neck he just shaved, while using our Daily Essential Face Moisturizer around his eyes and forehead. Why the difference? Our Instant Relief Aftershave has ingredients meant for post shave repair and protection, while our Daily Essential Face Moisturizer has robust anti-aging properties, thus being applied to the forehead and near the eyes.

At night:

Matt takes another shower, he washes his face again with our Clarifying Gel Face Wash and his body with our Invigorating Mint Body Wash.

Once out of the shower, Matt uses our Ultimate Men’s Anti Aging Routine. He applies our unscented Revitalizing Anti Aging Cream to his face, while putting our Restoring Eye Cream around the eyes. He enjoys the benefits of the skin firming and tightening properties these two products have and likes the results he’s seen over the past year or so. He’s been able to avoid many of the little wrinkles that start showing around the eyes during the early 30’s.

Perfect Your Routine

We hope giving you insight into our routines can help you perfect yours, or even get yours started. You may wonder why we didn’t mention using all our products. Just like you, we have different needs and objectives when it comes to skincare and grooming. Neither one of us get chapped lips, or need body or hand lotion. However, we have customers out there who buy these products in orders of 2,3 and even 6 at a time. It’s easy to lose lip balms and if your skin is always dry, you can never have enough hand or body lotion.

We encourage you to find the products you need to achieve your men’s skincare and grooming objectives, and create a simple routine that you’ll stick to for years to come. Skincare and grooming for men doesn’t need to be complicated. Cover the basics with one of our routines and get on with your life.

Do you have a solid, daily routine? If so, we’d love to hear it below and help other guys perfect or start their own.
